Robert Scott Lewis 71, of Dalton, PA passed away peacefully on Friday May 24, 2024 at Allied Services Hospice Center surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Cheryl Gavern Lewis, who he had been married to for 46 years.
Born in Scranton, PA, Scott was the oldest child of Lois A. Lewis and the late Robert W. Lewis. He grew up in Waverly, PA and graduated from Abington Heights High School. He pursued a Carpentry degree from Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA and Johnson College in Scranton, PA. Scott worked for 25 years at his family’s business, Scranton Building Block Co. as a Purchasing Manager and later worked at Home Depot as a Millwork Specialist. He took a great deal of pride in his renovations of his home and his daughter’s home in Massachusetts.
Scott was a lifelong and avid fisherman. He enjoyed his frequent fishing trips to Florida with his brothers. He passed down his love of nature and wildlife to his grandchildren, fostering an appreciation for the outdoors. He took great pride in his fifty orchids that he nurtured and grew, sharing his passion and insights with whoever came into his home. Scott was a passionate animal lover from dogs to reptiles and gerbils to birds. He left behind his pug, Maui and two cockatoos, Peaches and Rascal. He was also a MINI Cooper aficionado, and anyone who was awake at 5am would see Scott in Clarks Summit “flying by” on his way to work.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Jennifer Lewis (Georgeann) of Massachusetts; and two grandchildren, Madeleine and Grayson Lewis; three siblings, Karen Reid (James) of Glenburn, PA, Gregg Lewis (Gina) of Georgia and Mark Lewis (Terri) of New Jersey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
We would like to acknowledge and thank all of the amazing friends and family who supported Scott as well as Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Michael Kondash and Allied Hospice’s nurses and caregivers.
Scott leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories. He will be missed beyond measure.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (www.curemeso.org/donate) or the Allied Services Hospice Center (570-341-4320).
Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 11am to 2pm at a Memorial Service at the Waverly Country Club, 903 N Abington Rd. Waverly, PA 18471.
