
A proud veteran, John Shindledecker passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, strength, and compassion.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Marine Engineer, Marine Diver. It was an experience that shaped him deeply and instilled in him a lifelong devotion to his fellow veterans.
After his honorable service, John began his career in retail management for Sears Roebuck & Company, starting in Hackensack, New Jersey, then Paramus NJ, and Nyack, NY. Over 40 years, his natural leadership, passion for service, pride, and integrity became well known. John became owner of Lakewood Homes Builders and licensed Realtor for Caldwell Banker in Hawley, serving with loyalty and commitment.
John was a man who deeply valued people of all ages, a reputation of the kindness, loyalty, and generosity that defined his life. He believed in standing by others offering support and building lasting connections.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, October 1, 1946, to the late Earl Shindledecker and Kathleen Carroll Shindledecker, John is survived by the love of his life, Theresa, for 39 years, and a family of cats.
John will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his generous spirit, and abiding love for nature, special tenderness for all animals, especially his love of his family cats. Through the years, he was a Yankee fan and the state of Vermont, his community and the countless touched lives and his legacy of service and compassion will live on in all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held and announced at a later date.
