Kathleen McGill Gibson
April 4, 1944 – June 20, 2024
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Kathleen McGill Gibson, a beloved resident of Freedom Village, who left us peacefully on June 20, 2024, at the age of 80.
Kathleen was born on April 4, 1944, to the late William D. and L. Margaret McCaffrey McGill in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in a loving family and carried that love throughout her life, impacting everyone she met with her kindness and warmth. Kathleen was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Gibson and the cherished mother of Maura Gibson Hursh and her husband Matthew, and the late Erin Gibson Spears. She was a devoted grandmother to Bridget Kelly, Connor Spears, Jackson Hursh, and Lucas Hursh.
After graduating from Mount St. Joseph Academy, Kathleen pursued a career in nursing, dedicating over 40 years to caring for others with compassion and professionalism. She spent the majority of her career as a med-surg nurse before discovering her passion for wound care.
Kathleen was a vibrant member of her community at Freedom Village. She volunteered with the resident hospice program, held numerous positions on the RAC board, and performed in musicals. The family would like to thank the residents of Freedom Village, who became her second family over the past ten years. A special thank you to the nurses, aides, and all those who cared for and helped her transition peacefully during the last weeks of Kathleen’s life.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you spend time with your family and friends and share a story about Kathleen.
