Kathleen Malloy—lovingly known to all as “Kat Kat”—passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, at Allied Hospice, surrounded by her devoted family. She courageously fought her battle with cancer, never letting it dim her light or her laughter.
Kathy worked at St. Joseph’s for 10 years, where she truly loved her job and found purpose working with the kids. She was a proud graduate of Scranton High School and brought warmth and wit wherever she went.
If you knew Kat Kat, you knew she was always the life of the party. She had a gift for making everyone laugh, whether it was with one of her classic one-liners or just her joyful, infectious spirit. She was always filled with happiness, and her humor brought comfort to others even during their hardest moments. Kathy had a way of turning ordinary days into something unforgettable.
Her favorite song was Dancing Queen by ABBA—a perfect reflection of her fun-loving soul. No matter where she went, Kathy made life feel like a celebration. She will forever be remembered as our very own Dancing Queen.
Kat Kat had a heart of gold. She always wanted those around her to feel loved and happy. Whether she knew how to help or not, she never hesitated to try her best to make you smile. She never said goodbye—she always said, “I love your face.” If you were lucky enough to be her friend, then you were considered family.
Her family extends a heartfelt thank you to Allied Hospice for their compassion and care during her final days.
Kathy is survived by her beloved son, Tyler Malloy and daughter in law Colleen; her brother, Mike, her nephew Patrick Malloy, her Aunt Joyce and Uncle Paul Vilgos and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Jane (who passed away November 4, 2024), her father Jack, and her brother Patrick.
Kathy’s laughter, light, and love will never be forgotten. She’ll always be our Dancing Queen… Services will be July 19th at St. Paul’s Church 1510 Penn Ave. Scranton at 1:00 pm.
