Kathleen Anne McDonnell, 76, partner, mother, grandmother and very best friend, passed away on May 3, 2024, at her home in Scranton, Pa., surrounded by people who loved her.
Born in Scranton on May, 6, 1947, she was the daughter of Walter McDonnell and Anne (Duignan) McDonnell. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Jerry McDonnell; and sister, Maureen Piekanski.
Kathleen attended school at Cathedral High School in Scranton and college at Northwestern University. Prior to her retirement, she was an accomplished saleswoman for EFO Furniture in Dunmore, Pa., and a freelance photographer. Kathleen was a staunch supporter of American veterans and enjoyed riding her motorcycle with the Friends of the Forgotten motorcycle club to raise awareness for their causes. Kathleen loved music and played drums in a local band on the weekends and would always remember to bring her guitar to the family gatherings at Christmastime. Second to being a mother and grandmother, Kathleen found tremendous joy in photography and tending her beautiful flower gardens. She was an excellent gift-giver and never missed a special date.
Kathleen is survived by her life partner of 47 years, Robert Gurdock, Scranton; a daughter, Elizabeth Harris and husband, Brad, Scottsville, Va.; a son, James Kettrick and wife, Jennifer, of Palmyra Va.; a son, David Kettrick and wife, Melissa, of Clarks Green, Pa.; as well as two brothers, Jackie McDonnell and Terry McDonnell; three grandchildren, Matthew, Sophia and Jonathan; and a stepdaughter, Rhonda Gurdock.
As per Kathleen’s request, a private memorial service will be held at the place of her internment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society in honor of her love of animals.
