Donna S. Torrey Hughes, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home under hospice care after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. She faced her illness with remarkable strength, resilience, and unwavering grace.
Born on September 19, 1962, in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Donna was the daughter of the late Donald and Barbara (Layton) Torrey. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and a proud member of her community.
Donna will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Tyler Hughes and his wife, Amy; Justin Hughes and his wife, Arianne; and her stepson, Ryan Hughes. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to Olivia Hughes, Levi Hughes, and Quinlin Hughes, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also fondly remembered by her nieces Heather, Shannon, Crystal, and Samantha, and her nephews DJ and Mason.
She is also survived by her brother, Bill Torrey and his wife, Sherry; her sisters, Debra Campbell and Lorie Durante and her companion, Chuck Sholes; her aunt, Jane Post; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Donna shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Jewels, who remained faithfully by her side until the very end.
In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Torrey, and her nephew, Khalil Durante.
Donna was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Stroudsburg, where she found faith, strength, and a sense of community.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Residential Home Hospice team for their compassionate care and support during Donna’s final days.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Corey Brian Strauch Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when family and friends will gather to honor and remember Donna’s life, love, and legacy.
