Carl Joseph Eschbach, of Lake Ariel, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning.
Born in Trenton, NJ, Carl was the beloved son of the late Carl Eschbach and Margaret Minnick Eschbach. He attended Franklin Elementary School and Junior #4 Middle School. Carl built a dedicated career working for the railroad and later devoted over 25 years to CV Hills. He was also a proud and longtime member of the American Hungarian Club.
Carl will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was known for the unconditional love he gave to those around him and never missed the opportunity to say, “I love you.” A man of many passions, he enjoyed fishing, playing poker on Sunday mornings at the Hungarian Club, and reminiscing with friends. He was also an active bowler on several teams, a softball player, and loved telling stories—especially his favorite about playing basketball with Bill Bradley, a memory he shared often and with pride.
Family vacations were especially important to Carl, with annual trips to Gilford Park and Seaside Heights for crabbing and making lifelong memories. One of the family’s fondest recollections is of his legendary pig joke, which he told endlessly—always getting a laugh, even if his audience had heard it a hundred times before.
Carl is survived by his loving children:
Elizabeth “Liz” Zirpoli(preceded in death by Rick Zirpoli)
Brenda Reeves
Michelle “Micki” Framo (Fred Framo)
Jennifer “Jenn” Sesar (Joe Sesar)
Debra “Debbie” Eschbach
Carl “Butch” Eschbach (Jamie Eschbach)
Richard “Rich” Eschbach (Toni Eschbach)
Kenneth “Ken” Eschbach (Jeanne Eschbach)
He is also survived by his first wife, Wilma Fink Thomas, 25 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by his second wife, Martha; his parents, Margaret and Carl; and his sisters, Elizabeth and Madeline Eschbach.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his daughter Brenda and granddaughter Chantell, whose unwavering care and love for Carl meant so much. Special appreciation is also extended to the team at Compassion Care Hospice—Kathy, Donna, Davine, and Brittany—for the exceptional care and compassion they provided, treating our father as if he were their own. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held on June 7th at 3pm at St. Bartholomew Church 1746 S. Clinton Avenue. Trenton, NJ 08610
