Cathy Ann Kostelak

In Memorial

Cathy Ann Kostelak, lovingly known as “Cat,” 70, of Hawley, PA, passed away on December 11, 2025, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after a long battle with pulmonary disease.

Cathy was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1955 to Amelia Hogaboom-Davern and Hans J. Larsen. In 1964, she was adopted by Edward and Joyce Kostelak and moved to Wayne, NJ, where she was raised and later attended Wayne Valley High School. As a child, Cathy was a talented pianist, and she loved music throughout her life.

Cathy’s life was marked by resilience and a spirit that endured, always seeking moments of joy and peace. She was the mother of four children, including two sets of twins, and a bonus mother to two children.

In her later years, Cathy found comfort and peace living in the Pocono Mountains. She loved the natural beauty of the area, especially Lake Wallenpaupack, and found joy in the quiet surroundings and changing seasons.

She was preceded in death by her long-term partner, Kevin Spinning, and her dear friend, Frank Getz.

Cathy is survived by her children: Michael Zackowski (Sara), Paul Zackowski (Carrie), Kimberly Geller (Barry), and Peter Zackowski (Olga); her bonus children: Michael Spinning (Kellyanne) and Christopher Spinning; and her six grandchildren. Cathy shared a particularly special bond with her first and oldest grandchild, Olivia, whose presence brought her joy and light.

She is also survived by her close friend, Dena Ford, who shared a deep and meaningful friendship with Cathy and was a cherished part of her life.

Services are private.

Although i last saw Cathy in the 70’s I never forgot her, or her inherently kind heart..we reconnected through the miracle of Social Media, and I am so glad we did.
Sincere to a fault, and a kind and loyal soul who never forgot her friends.
I know she has now found the Peace and acceptance she’s yearned for in the arms of our Lord.
