Billie Chanute

In Memorial

Billie Chanute passed away Tuesday April 24, 2018 at home at the age of 91.

Billie was born June 10, 1927 in Keokuk, Iowa to Horace C. and Mary (Rich) Hinkley.

In 1948, Billie married Octave Arthur Chanute and together they raised three children, Jeffrey, Mary and Elaine. They all enjoyed many adventures together.

Over her lifetime, Billie volunteered as a docent at the Denver Art Museum, worked as a paralegal, and worked as a church secretary. Billie’s hobbies included sewing, quilting, art, tennis, and reading. Billie even took flying lessons and did a solo flight in 1976 in spite of her fear of flying.

In 2016, Billie relocated to Pennsylvania and lived with her daughter Elaine and family. She was a fixture at the Hoyt Library, St Ignatius Church, and was often seen taking her daily walk around the block.

Billie was preceded in death by her husband Octave, son Jeffrey, daughter Mary, her brother Charles, and her sisters Grace, Esther and Anna Marie. She is survived by her daughter Elaine Burg, son-in-law Paul Burg, and grandchildren Madeleine, Christopher, and Julia.

A service will be held on June 10, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Cradle adoption agency in Evanston, IL or the Hoyt Library in Kingston, PA.
