John Howell James

Posted By Corey Strauch On February 4, 2021 @ 9:42 am In Obituaries | 3 Comments

The remarkable John “Jack” James Jr., talented craftsman, avid model train collector with a passionate orchid fixation, and a proud Vietnam veteran, passed away on January 25, 2021 at his home. He reunited with his loving wife, Barbara, and his parents Bertha  and John James Sr. in life after death.

His two daughters, Kimberly Angelotti and Kelly Szollosy carry on his spirit. They are joined by his two brothers Robert James and Richard James, and following suit are nieces, nephews and cousins.

After his discharge from the U.S. Air Force, Jack started the next chapter of his life at Power Engineering. He relished his role as a mentor and earned the respect and adoration of his colleagues.

Over time, Jack’s enthusiasm for travel allowed him and Barbara to experience new cultures and seeing the world in a different light.

A “Jack” of all trades, his interests were far and wide. It would never be a surprise to see him under a jacked up antique car or run into him on his way to flying lessons. He loved a nice sunny day, perfect for sailing in his favorite pair of shorts. His basement was seemingly designated for the building of model airplanes, preparing them for flight in the back yard.

Jack loved a corny pun and was always up for small talk, especially at one of his favorite restaurants. He was pleased with his vast t-shirt collection and boasted of his latest eBay findings. We won’t mention his affinity for potted meat.

To honor his life, Jack would want us to celebrate each of the personal memories we had with him.

“I don’t want anyone gawking at me as I lay in a coffin. Instead, I’ll be going to meet the great cremator, with whom I’ve made prior arrangements. That way I know I’ll get what I want.”  -Jack James

It is with deep sympathy I offer my condolences to the family! Jack was a great neighbor. He and Barb were always there for us and we for them. One Christmas Jack gave me a device for my purse to keep me safe if I was in trouble. A loud alarm. I will always cherish it! Jack and my husband Gary spoke many times and my husband would clean off his driveway from the snow. I became the official dog catcher when the dogs got loose. He in return helped me with my dog. We spoke on the phone and I offered condolences when he lost Barbara. My husband and I will miss them both! Rest in peace Jack and Barbara!❤

Deepest sympathy to the family of Jack, especially Kim. I will miss the emails that Jack sent to me, especially the political ones. RIP Jack.
