Hugh N. Smith

Hugh N. Smith, 90, of Atco, NJ passed away February 9, 2021 at Hammonton Center, Hammonton, NJ. He and his wife, Carolyn B. Smith were married for 70 years.

Born in Cheektowaga, NJ, son of the late Willis Boyd Smith and Ethel Adell Hughes Smith he was a 1948 graduate of Bridgeton High School. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force until 1952. 

Hugh had many talents and took on many different rolls in life. From a bread delivery driver to a secretary at many different environments, to running his own well established Janitorial Service which he sold after 20 plus years to retire in Florida. He became a Big Brother with that organization later in life. Once he retired he volunteered with a couple of different churches and other services to help others. He also was involved in the community in which he lived trying to make a difference. He flew and owned several different types of Airplanes, collected coins, did puzzles, played tennis, avid reader and spent hours on line keeping up with current events. He also spent time with his grandchildren teaching them how to do things like put on a play, passing on his knowledge and experiences.

Denise Kubeck, St Augustine, FL

Doris Nelson, Philadelphia, PA

Joyce Kirby, Westampton, NJ

A sister Marian Perehoduk, Fresno, CA

Grandchildren Shannon Mahoney, Steven D. Vaughn, Jr., Christine Spor (Richard), Darius Ogborn (Nicole), Sage Smith (Morgan) Melanie Morgan (John), Jessica Wansley (Jarvis), James Nelson (Sara)

11 Great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother Eugene (John) Smith.

Hugh’s family would like to thank the Nursing Staff in the REM Unit at Allegria at the Fountains for taking such good care of him.

A memorial service will be held April, 16 2021 at 1pm at the home of Janice and Sam Fleckenstine, 127 Beaumont Drive, Newtown, PA. 18940.  A visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of the service.
