Emma Gish

Posted By Corey Strauch On October 4, 2017 @ 11:50 am In Obituaries | No Comments

We lost our EMMA ESHELMAN GISH – beloved mama, grandma, sister and friend – October 3 (2017).  Emma was a kind soul with a beautiful smile, a humorous twinkle with a glint of mischievousness in her eyes.   Survived by daughter Rosemary Gish Ebersole, and son-in-law Dennis Ebersole; her granddaughter Aimeé (Luis Chacon), and her grandson Gabe; two sisters Florence Merkey (David) and Mary Royer; her faithful feline Star, and many extended family and friends.  Emma lives in our hearts and memories.  She was kind, sweet, humble, respectful, and compassionate – a LIGHT in all our lives – a woman of few words unless she really had something to say.  We’re better for having known her and will miss her terribly.

LANCASTER COUNTY     Emma was born on the family farm to Blaine Risser Gantz and Emma Eshelman Gantz on October 30 (1927) one of seven siblings: Alan, Stella, Eshelman, Blaine Jr., Florence and Mary.  Married to Walter Erb Gish on April 30 (1950) they enjoyed 40 years together living on the Gish Family Farm prior to his passing on April 5 (1991).  Walter and Emma enjoyed many years with their church family at Elizabethtown BIC Church.  Emma was a farm lady and a business woman overseeing a large chicken and egg production in the 1950s and 60s.  She retired from Wyeth Lab, Marietta, PA.  Emma and Walter are buried in the West Green Tree cemetery, Green Tree Road, Elizabethtown PA.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE  We will celebrate Emma’s life on what would have been her 90th birthday, October 30th at 1:30 PM in her home for the past 13 plus years:  Devon House, 1930 Bevin Drive, Allentown PA   18103.  Emma’s dear friend Lucy Ulery will officiate.  Friends and family are invited to share Emma stories, enjoy savories and sweets, and remember a remarkable friend.  (610)967-1100

CONTRIBUTIONS   Emma loved flowers, especially taking a garden bouquet to a friend.  You might Pay-it-Forward with a floral bouquet to a friend in need of cheering.  Emma also supported the Salvation Army.
