Elizabeth “Betty” Armstrong Mossor, 90, of Annville, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, February 25, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. She was the widow of the late Frederick H. Mossor who died in 1996. The couple was married 50 years.

Born in Chester, the daughter of the late Edward M. and Margaret Mac Niven Armstrong, she was a graduate of Chester High School, Chester. Betty served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. She was often quoted as saying, “I freed a Marine to fight for our country”. She was so proud of her service in the Marine Corps, and was an active member of the Women’s Memorial Association. It was so fitting that she was born on the 4th of July, as her patriotism was so much a part of who she was. She faithfully served as secretary of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Woodlyn, PA for more than 20 years.

Betty was extremely active until her death in outreach activities at her church. She was a member of Palmyra First United Methodist Church in Palmyra, PA. She was also a former member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Aston, PA and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Woodlyn, PA. 

Having a child, Sharon Margaret Mossor, who lost her life due to Cystic Fibrosis as the age of 3 in 1954, Betty was honored in 2003 for being one of the original founders of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Betty touched the lives of so many people. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family meant everything to her, and she was always ready to talk about how proud she was. She left a legacy of love for her God, her family and friends, and for her country.

Surviving are a daughter Bonnie M. Knoetgen, and her husband Dennis of Annville; a son Frederick “Rick” C. Mossor, and his wife Patricia Mossor, of Plymouth Meeting; grandchildren Frederick J. Mossor and wife Audra, Christopher Mossor and fiancée Dianne Mann, Tricia Mossor, Todd Brysiak and wife Angela; great grandchildren Tyler Mossor, Brock West-Mossor, Brody Mossor, Ashlyn Brysiak, Evan Brysiak; a sister-in-law, Helen Mossor, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Armstrong and a sister, Jane Armstrong Cumby.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff of Twin Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Palmyra, PA, where Betty resided since December 2014. In addition, we would like to express our gratitude to the staff of both Good Samaritan Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospice for the kind and compassionate care provided during Betty’s final days.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 2:00 pm at Palmyra First United Methodist Church, 520 E. Birch Street, Palmyra, PA 17078, to be officiated by the Rev. Dr. David Harris, pastor.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 22, 2015 2:00 pm at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 535 Lamp Post Lane, Aston, PA 19014, to be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Stephen Boughter and Rev. Daniel Krewson..

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Palmyra First United Methodist Church, 520 E. Birch Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 OR St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 535 Lamp Post Lane, Aston, PA 19014.
